‘Tis the season for lists and so far – here is one of my favorites. (Besides, PJ was nice enough to post my favorites of the year so I’d like to show that yes, I do actually post here!)
America’s Finest News Source has released their list of the most cringe-worthy names they could find. Although some of the names on that list are names that you’d only ever find, well, on that list (unless you’ve spent a lot of time perusing myspace for bad band names as I suspect the AV Club had) there were a few recognizable victims on there. I don’t think anyone’s gonna argue that Shitdisco is one of the worst band names around (Holy Fuck, somehow, got spared.) Other names I recognized: Joan As Police Woman, now-defunct DC band Let’s French, Atlanta locals Gringo Starr and a band that I’ve been told I need to check out, and might if I can get past the fact that they’re called Psychedelic Horseshit. I kid you not.
This list is worth reading for the reason that most quality Onion pieces are worth reading – the onset of side-splitting laughter (I highly recommend going back in the archives to September where they report that Pitchfork gave music a 6.8.) Any bands that you feel were treated too harshly? Any band names that you feel belong on this list? My nominations (aside from the aforementioned Holy Fuck)? Seriously – how did Holy Fuck get a pass? As much as I like both of these bands – I don’t think either !!! or Get Him Eat Him would be out of place on that list.

Holy Fuck gets a pass because the music is good (to me it is!).
Oh, I like Holy Fuck’s music. I like Shitdisco’s and Gringo Starr’s too for that matter. I just think it’s a pretty bad band name (although memorable.)
Joan As Police Woman is one of best singer/songwriters!

Glad to see Best Fwends and Does It Offend You, Yeah? made it to the list. Both names just confound me. But Boneless Children Foundation so do not deserve that list. They kick ass, and that name is totally what made me check them out.

Some of those names are crazy! I guess some bands will do anything for some type of exposure. Even if it is on a worst list of 2007.
