I love West Coast hip hop. There’s something about the Quannum crew’s throwback optimism and sound that really appeals to me. So, when I heard about the Mighty Underdogs, a new collaboration between Gift of Gab (from Blackalicious), Lateef the Truth Speaker, and Headnodic, I knew I needed to hear it. This little Prelude EP is only available from www.giftstribution.com, but if you like anything by the parties involved, this is one you don’t want to miss. A personal favorite is the opening track, “U.F.C.,” with cuts from no other than DJ Shadow. 20 minutes of hip-hop bliss, and a wonderful appetizer for the upcoming full-length.
