I’ve finally gotten around to checking out a couple of these new tracks from Alison Statton, the upcoming album from Boston’s Pants Yell! It took me a while to come around on their 2006 release Recent Drama, but I was sort of in a weird transition with my taste in music during that time. As most of you might have noticed nowadays, i’m totally into the twee sides of things with the kind of music I feature on the blog. That’s certainly the kind of category that Pants Yell! fall into, though these new tracks definitely punch things up a quite a bit.
Even with the replacement of original drummer Carly Smith with Casey Keenan, it doesn’t seem to have affected their sound in the least. From listening to “Tried To Be Good,” the band seems to be, dare I say, even better then before. Right away, when I heard the inclusion of those trumpets and that organ later into the song, I was confident that this album was going to deliver. Suffice to say, i’m really looking forward to hearing the rest of this album when it’s released on December 4th on Soft Abuse.
