Mexico’s Café Tacuba have been on the forefront of Rock en Español for over a decade now, and they have yet to misstep, in m opinion. Their last album, Cuatro Caminos, offered up their sound with a healthy dose of quirky electronics that left me curious as to where they’d go next. Interestingly, their new album Sino is less experimental than that album, but perhaps more across-the-board successful.
For those who don’t know them, Café Tacuba began with a sound mixing rock with more traditional Mexican sounds, and have dabbled in a little of everything along the way. Sino shows the band trying their hand at calming down a little and writing (mostly) short pop songs that draw on the last 40 years of pop tradition. 80s synths, Beatles-esque pianos, and great melodies make this album enjoyable from start to finish. The lead single, “Volver a Comenzar,” shows how well the band can write songs that can stick in your head without wearing themselves out. You may not be able to understand what they’re saying, but don’t let Spanish deter you from checking this album, and this band, out, since this album is a great place to start getting to know this great band.

thanx for the post, they’ll be touring the US this november and december, they are by far me favorite live band, in any language. and that’s really the only way to really grasp what they are all about. the album really got me by surprise, don’t really know love it as much a Cuatro Caminos yet. a key track is “vamonos” and make sure to listen to “seguir siendo” and “tengo todo” together…
