I still love a good mash-up. As long as there are new songs and guys willing to mix them up in new combinations, I’ll b there to listen, nod my head, and smile. Maybe it’s just the postmodernist in me, but I just can’t get enough of that sonic collage.

First up is iPunx (yeah, the name is unfortunate). The British duo mashes up music in a hyperactive way that brings to mind Girl Talk. Their 45-minute album, Destroying Dancefloors, is up for free download on their website. Check it out- if Nirvana mashed with Jackson 5 doesn’t make you grin, I don’t know what will.

Another interesting mix is Bullion’s Pet Sounds: In the Key of Dee. The album is not really a mash-up, but it utilizes the Beach Boy’s immortal album and samples from the late hip-hop producer Jay Dilla to create a sonic collage mixing the classic with the modern. It’s short, but shows a DJ that knows how to use samples to craft something that sounds original despite its familiar source material. Once again, you can download it free via his Myspace. Enjoy!
