Sometimes when I hear new songs, it’s rare that it has enough impact for me to write something about it right away. It usually takes a while for a song’s quirks to make themselves apparent, for it to actually click with me. I’m usually like a robot as I listen to music now as i’m discarding music if it doesn’t appeal to me after only a few tracks. It’s a terrible way to listen to music, but that just seems to be the nature of blogging about music.
That wasn’t the case earlier tonight when I was sent this song “Hush If You Must” from Brooke Waggoner, an extremely talented piano-playing, singer songwriter from Nashville. It begins with subtle piano in the beginning, and would’ve been just fine if it continued this way throughout the entire song to be honest. Where it really begins to shine is with the amazing string arrangements that are heard right away and manages to breathe so much life into this song. It manages to rise and sway with ease and contains a wonderful segue towards the middle of the track that goes into a sudden upbeat play of the piano with handclaps-a-plenty that I just can’t help but smile from.
It’s only one song mind you, as I haven’t listened to anything else (yet) off her six-track EP that was released last month. It’s available on her myspace page along with iTunes, so i’ll probably purchase this as soon as I finish posting this. She also announced a tour in the Fall which includes……wait for it……a stop in here in AUBURN. Yes indeed, she’ll be performing at the Olde Auburn Ale House on October 11th. It’s always wonderful to have artists like this to come and perform in town, so I will be dragging everyone’s ass that I know to this whether they like it or not.

Great stuff – thanks for the recommendation!
Wow, you really did like her a lot.
Glad we’ll both get a chance to see her too.
As a long time friend of Brooke’s I’m probably just a teensy bit biased, but I never cease to be amazed at the way she grows musically with each track she releases.
FACT: Brooke is super duper, level 1 billion.
I was using Project Playlist and read some of your reviews and then followed the trail to this wonderful website and I must say that I’m so glad I did.
I’m loving the music you recommend especially Brooke Waggoner.
Keep up the great work.
Great EP, I must say. It’s gotten quite a few spins at my place. My wife and I will probably go see her when she comes to SLC…
She is an extremely talented young musician and knowing her personally since she was in high school with my son, she has come along way! She has a very beautiful voice and style – and she is a beautiful person as well! We wish her all the best & much sucess! Great EP!
I am an extremely picky listener but as soon as I heard her, she immediately made my “top 3″ favorite artists list. Highly recommended
