This morning I received an awesome track from the upcoming album First Steps Into… from Blue States, which is essentially one man from the UK who goes by the name of Andy Dragazis. It’s also apparently one of the first ever signees to the Memphis Industries label, which is home to the likes of The Go! Team and The Pipettes. The latter of which have actually been produced by Dragazis. I’ve always enjoyed a lot of the music that the label has released, so it was one reason that I was detail that piqued my interest on checking out this track.
The album is due out on August 27th in the UK, followed the next day with a US release on the 28th. You can head over to the myspace page as there are three other songs for you to sample along with a video for “Allies.”

“The Electric Compliment” | Blue States
This song came as such a wonderful surprise after I first listened to it. It’s a strictly instrumental track, that has a sort of film score-like quality with a downtempo instrumentation of various strings and brass that are used. What is really great about this track is the build-up that continues until a point where you just hear a set of various strings being played and at the 2:55 mark it bursts into a completely new direction that I absolutely love. It suddenly becomes a different song altogether, as a wave of upbeat piano, handclaps and continuing strings bring the track to a rousing finish.
