I was hoping that someone here would touch upon this recent news announcement, but I guess i’m the only Britpop enthusiast on this blog. If you haven’t heard, The Verve are reuniting this year with the original line-up (Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury) for a brand new album AND tour this year. Here’s the official announcement on their new website:
The Verve are set to reunite for a winter tour.
The original band of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe,Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury have got together for the first time in almost a decade.
In a statement, the band have announced they were: “Getting back together for the joy of the music.” It is believed they will take a summer break and then return to the studio to complete their next album.
The band broke up in 1999, with the tumultuous relationship between Ashcroft and McCabe being well documented with the two exiting the band repeatedly since they began in 1993.
The band are set to play:
Glasgow Academy (November 2,3)
Blackpool Empress Ballroom (5,6)
London Roundhouse (8,9)
Tickets are set to go on sale on July 6.
If that doesn’t make you excited, than my friend I feel sorry for you. It’s been nearly a decade since Urban Hymns was released and any hope for a reunion looked dim as The Verve seemed to sound a lot like The Smiths in terms of ever reuniting (basically it was never going to happen). So they decided to reunite for the sake of “Getting back together for the joy of the music” eh? Whatever you say guys, i’m just excited to know that i’ll be listening to a new album this year. It’s great because, I was getting sick of those terrible Richard Ashcroft solo albums. Here’s one of my favorite tracks off all time “History” from 95’s A Northern Soul.

On word- yes.
Hmm… I meant “one” word… I don’t know what “on word” means…
I think all of us britpop enthusiasts are excited about the Verve reunion.
I really hope Nick and Richard have buried the hatchet. I don’t know if Richard’s doing this for the joy of the music, but I get the feeling Nick’s more sincere about claims like that than Richard. I think he’s conceded that he’s crap without Nick, Simon, and Peter.
I totally agree. I got an email out of nowhere today announcing tour dates and I freaked out.
Especially since Richard’s solo albums have gotten progressively worse. Alone with Everybody was pretty solid, Check the Meaning was cool, but his last disc had some EMBARESSING tunes on it.
Oh and I also agree that if you don’t get goosebumps by those strings in the intro to History you are not human.
YES!
