Lots of great releases this week as I spent almost all of last night listening to as many albums as I possibly could. A couple that i’ve had around my desk for a couple of weeks include John Vanderslice’s Emerald City, who’s music i’ve sadly never been immediately drawn to. That being said, the new LP has been very solid from what i’ve heard so far and i’m sure i’ll enjoy it with future repeats. You also can’t deny how awesome the man is with his support of blogs and digital media, as he continues to provide free MP3s and other goodies on his website. A prime example are the live, in-studio videos he’s providing for each of the new songs off Emerald City and sending them out to his favorite blogs. The first of which is “Kookabura” which you can’t check out over at Stereogum.

I didn’t realize how much I typed into that first paragraph, as it probably deserves it’s own post. Oh well, no matter. Not to be completely over shadowed are Tegan and Sara’s The Con, which has found the most time played on my iPod at work this week. It’s enjoyable, but not quite on the same level as So Jealous which I admit, I probably listened to enough times to melt my cd.

I’m kind of embarassed that I didn’t know about the Manic Street Preachers releasing a new record this year. I haven’t kept up with that band in years, but I definitely got a bit nostalgic when I noticed it on the list of releases. I’m actually really enjoying this so far and one track in particular that features Nina Persson of The Cardigans. Emily Haines also has a new EP out as well, which kind of fell under the radar. Haven’t listened to it yet, but that shall be rectified later today.
