As expected, the lineup for Lollapalooza this year is phenomenal. The scheduling, on the other hand, prevents one from having the full Lollapalooza experience, or as I prefer to phrase it, milking it for all it’s worth. It’s a pity to pay $195 for a ticket, but only be able to see half of the top bands. For example, the schedule pits Daft Punk against Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs against Snow Patrol, Muse against Interpol, and My Morning Jacket against Modest Mouse. Bah! I am a disgruntled customer. Furthermore, the schedulers don’t even attempt to schedule staggered shows, so that fans can at least attend part of a show, while still making to the other half of the show from a competing band. In my opinion, the scheduling is not fair to the bands, nor the fans. It’s a conspiracy!
Okay, enough complaining, and on to the music. In preparation for Lollapalooza this year, I have put together a little mix highlighting *some* of the bands I look forward to seeing. Please enjoy!

I agree completely about the poor job of scheduling…

  2. Blonde On Blonde says:

Yeah, the scheduling may be crappy, but the line up is really good. I am really into most of those bands right now, hopefully I can make. Speaking of cool bands, The Lovemakers have a new album dropping soon and its gonna be sick, keep an eye out!

The lineup is great, but I hate the scheduling. Muse vs. Interpol, My Morning Jacket vs. TV On The Radio etc. is terrible.

Lollapalooza needed to do a better job spreading out the better bands throughout the day.

I can’t wait to see DAFT PUNK!!!! actually the first day all around is going to be the best for me. I heard there’s going to be some after party that first night with guys from DAFT and the RAPTURE spinning. It sounds kind of fantastic. On TrashMenagerie.com they already talked about an official after party for San Francisco so I hope they definitely do one in Chicogo and announce it soon. It would kind of just complete the entire Lolla experience getting to see them spinning all night.

  5. Mary says:

I’m glad that I am not the only one to disagree with the poor scheduling. And I definitely will attend some of the after parties!

Thanks Blonde On Blonde for the tip about the Lovemakers….they’re awesome..especially in concert! I’ll probably post about them soonish.

And for those of us on the east coast who can’t make it up to Chicago – a lot of those bands will be doing double duty that weekend – playing both Lollapalooza and VFest in Baltimore. So thankfully, I’ll still get to see a fair amount of those bands – Peter, Bjorn & John, Spoon, M.I.A., CSS, Amy Winehouse, Interpol and LCD Soundsystem, Paolo Nutini, etc. No Daft Punk though. You have my undivided envy, there. :)

Sure, the scheduling is upsetting. But, this year’s Lolla looks like the best yet and your post about it completley changed my summer plans. How could I have forgotten to black out Aug 3-5 on my calender? A heartfelt thanks for reminding me.

    See you all in Chi-town!

  8. Mary says:

Glad to be of service Zack. =) It’s what we do here at the TYS.

There seems to be a problem with Muse’s ‘Supermassive Blackhole’. I can’t get the song to play?

  10. Jessica says:

    Wow, that’s horrible.
Hope they do a better job next year.

  11. Mary says:

I fixed the issue with Supermassive Blackhole (the song that is…) Enjoy!

  12. Steve says:

Agreed on the poor scheduling. It’s so bad, in fact, that I’ve decided not to go this year. I’m gonna go to Chicago for the Hideout Block Party a few weeks later instead so I can catch Bloc Party, the Frames and Andrew Bird.

  13. pitumbo says:

That is a brutal schedule…what were they thinking? If I may add my two cents though, I’d definitely opt for Snow Patrol — they’re absolutely brilliant live.
