Compiling my list of favorite songs for the mid-point of 2007 proved to be a difficult task compared to last year. This time around I wanted to narrow my list to just 10, compared to the overload of songs that I chose in 2006. I asked Pablo and Eric to do the same, and though i’ve had their lists for a few weeks now, it’s taken myself a considerable amount of time to come up with my own. The idea in your head always seems so simple until you actually sit down to compile such a measly list from what seems like an unlimited pool of songs.

I gave myself the same guidelines in choosing tracks as the previous year, which were the following:

A. One song from each artist only.
B. No remixes
C. Nothing that hasn’t been released yet
D. Nothing from around this date

Here are our choices, in no particular order because I don’t think any of us were very interested in ranking everything. Hope you enjoy the lists, and feel free to chime in with your own favorite tracks! We’d love to hear them.

These tracks will probably only be up for a week just because there are so many, so get them while you can.

beirut is way overrated aren’t they…snooze button that…

dug the datarock, rosebuds and LCD somewhat…

    but

let’s just say…this year will likely not be going down in the “record books”

I mean if this is an assortment of the best we’ve got coming out and about these daze… yikes!

anyone there down with the Icky Thump, Underdog by Spoon, Into Action by Tim Armstrong or is that stuff not indie enuf?

Tonight I Have To Leave It by the Shout Out Louds, it’s the best Cure record in over a decade…

did anyone even listen to “Sermon on Expososition Blvd”…check out “Elvis cadillac”…

it’s from the new Rickie Lee Jones CD and I swear it has way more sonic depth , and trippy hipster street cred than half of the crap floating across the radar in bloglandia

or hey for pop pleasure , how about Oh Carol by Stereo Nation…it’s a reggaefied Sedaka cover! is that uneligible?

Dumb Animal by TV on The Radio anyone?

    White Lilies by Peder?

    Uncut ’s Breaking Glass ain’t bad either…

keep digging in those digital crate kids… stay out of the emotional gutter…

you’ll live longer, laugh harder & leak lighter

    Ummm…. ok..

  3. PJ says:

These list are in no way signifying the best songs out there. It’s just what each of us like and an indicator of our individual tastes. I guess I should’ve phrased the title as favorites.

  4. Beth says:

Thrilled to see Of Montreal getting some midyear mentions! All three lists are pretty darn good …

  5. Eric says:

Definitely a list of our personal favorites… I don’t know about you guys, (PJ and Pablo) but for me I had to narrow it down from about 30 to 10.

Its nice to see the difference between the three lists.

  10. Pablo says:

To be honest, I’m a lot more of an album person than a song person, so making lists like these are kind of tough… I just kind of thought of songs I ended up addicted to at one point or another this year. But I like how we all kind of have different slants to ours with a few bands overlapping… Go personal taste!

  11. Jeremy says:

    D.A.N.C.E-Justice
    No Cars Go-Acrade Fire
    Stronger-Kanye West
    Hearts On Fire-Cut Copy
Tonight I Have To Leave It-Shout Out Louds

    The Magic Position-Patrick Wolf
    Energy-Apples In The Stereo
    Smokers Outside The Hopital Doors-Editors

I thought Peter, Bjorn and John wa last year?
Or maybe just for us folks down under?

  12. PJ says:

If we want to get technical….Writer’s Block was released here in the US this year.

I associate the song with 2006 though.

  13. Eric says:

Yeah, it was released in the US this year… that was the case with a few albums. Albert Hammond Jr’s album was released in the UK last year I believe as well.

As Pablo said, it was just what hit me at particular moments. Because right now I don’t really want to hear D.A.N.C.E. one bit, im kind of sick of the song.

Im glad you all are posting your favorite tracks as well, it is always nice to see what other people think.

  14. Jeremy says:

Thats what I thought, there’s always debate over when albums get released and which year they should be included.
I had Cold War Kid’s Robbers and Cowards in my top 10 last year although it didnt come out in Australia til this year.
Also feels like Datarock has been around for ages
