If there’s one thing i’ve noticed quite frequently now from watching television the past few weeks, is what feels like an onslaught of the Residence Inn by Marriott commercials featuring the sweet, sweet sounds of Andrew Bird. At first when I woke up one morning to a commercial featuring a woman balancing apples on her kitchen table, I was amazed to hear mashed up version of “Imitosis” used in the background. I honestly don’t have a problem with artists lending their music to commercials and such, just as long as it’s not being completely butchered like the Outback Steakhouse advertisement featuring Of Montreal’s “Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Games)”

That one aformentioned commercial wasn’t the last that I’d see, as throughout the week I continued to discover new commercials containing different Andrew Bird tracks from Armchair Apocrypha and The Mysterious Production of Eggs. There would be four different commercials total, featuring “Banking on a Myth”, “untitled”, “Imitosis” and “Skin, Is My”. The commercials aren’t that bad, and the songs give off a sense of sophistication to them which says a lot about his music. I hope that through these that more people discover how amazing an artist he is. You can read a little bit more over at Music For Kids Who Can’t Read Good as Taylor has touched upon this topic as well, along with admitting he actually works at Residence Inn.

Here’s one of the videos featuring “Imitosis” and click the below to watch the other three commercials. Another tidbit if you’re interested in seeing Andrew Bird live, he recently announced a string of dates in September that you can check here.

I texted you but I’m afraid you didn’t receive it. Anyhow, I saw Andrew Bird open for The Decemberists with the LA Philoharmonic. I thought of you and wanted to let you know that he was amazing.

There is an Illinois tourism commercial with a song that sounds strikingly like an Andrew Bird knockoff. I’ll see if I can find it.

  3. Chris says:

My mistake, it actually is Andrew Bird who composed the song for the Illinois Bureau of Tourism.

    Check it.
