For all those folks out there who haven’t had the chance to see The National, you at least have a chance to listen to a live concert set. TONIGHT NPR’s “All Songs Considered” is airing a live show of The National from Washington DC at 10pm.

They are playing at a place called the 9:30 club (not to be confused with 10pm). Here is the link to find this live show, I assume around show time there will be a streaming link posted up there.

I also want to give a shout out to Pitch4k since I read about this show at their site earlier today.
So listen to the show, and Enjoy. NPR usually leaves their podcasts up for about a week afterwards (according to here-say). Hopefully this holds true.

The National | “Secret Meeting”
The National | “Mr. November”
(These were two of my Fav’s during their live set)

Very much enjoyed seeing them in a more intimate venue (I had remembered 9:30 Club being bigger for some reason) where I could actually hear Matt Berninger singing “My mind’s not right, my mind’s not right” and not just filling in the dead air in the Civic Center by singing the words myself. And I think the guy with me enjoyed it even more than I did. So – that’s from someone who was at the show – how did it sound on NPR? And could you hear the guy at the end of the set who yelled, “Fuck us over!!”

It sounded pretty good on NPR, kind of like a live album with the way the sound was mixed with the audience. While you can gather some of the emotion by listening to the album or listening to a performance on NPR, seeing them (and seeing Matt) gives it that extra emotional kick that makes it incredible.

I was happy I heard Green Gloves, that is my personal fav off of Boxer, and they didn’t play it here in Cincy.

I didn’t hear the guy who yelled that at the end, NPR came back to the announcer (who was awful… he said they were from Cleveland, and he hadn’t heard hardly any of Boxer… i mean if you announcing aren’t you going to make yourself educated about the band???)

  3. I saw them at the 930 club, awesome show…. wish they would have played murder me rachel though.
