Sunday morning I had woken up and received an email regarding the disappearance of John Pike, the drummer from Ra Ra Riot. It mentioned how he had been missing for 24 hours after attending a party in Fairhaven, MA. An article mentioned that his cell phone was found on a beach near the house, and the search was ongoing. One would only hope that everything would sort itself out, and that he would be found. That was basically my thought process, since I wasn’t planning on posting about it until this morning.
Later in the day as I was looking for any more information, I had come across this article from NME mentioning that his body had been found. My heart sunk, and I felt an incredible sadness because it was through the initial email that I had discovered this band’s music. I was immediately drawn to the sound, but it’s a terrible feeling to discover music through such tragedy. I honestly didn’t want to post about this news, but the discovery and subsequent sadness compelled me to say a few words about it. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved with Ra Ra Riot and their families.
