Though it’s only been three years since Summer Make Good (still a long time), it’s been six years since i’ve listened to Múm myself as Finally We Are No One was the last record that I bought and listened to. It was extremely difficult for me to find that album at the time, as I would resort to finding music from my local music store instead of the internet. The reward was well worth the effort, as it’s still one of my favorite albums to listen to alone on a lonely night. There’s no denying the quality of the music, as there is this child-like innocence that wraps around the entire record. I don’t want to get too carried away, so i’ll just say that it’s a beautiful record and I highly recommend it if you haven’t checked it out.
Obviously, it’s been such a long time since i’ve heard a new song from the band, so i’m very excited to hear the news of their upcoming record titled Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy, Let Your Crooked Hands Be Holy. Yes, a strange title, but would you expect anything different from them at this point? According to Fatcat records, the record will be released on September 24th.
A colourful, twitching, playful work of art, full of life affirming energy, the album will be preceded by the single they made frogs smoke ’til they exploded on 27th August. A chirpy song about animal cruelty, it’s backed with ‘the amateur show’, described by the band as a wonky insect-circus instrumental.
It’s sad to hear that Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir is no longer with the band along with twin sister Gyða who left in 2002, but the band have seem to have made up for the loss considering there are now seven members. Here’s a new track that was posted on Skatterbrain that was recorded during the band’s Hlaupanotan session. What do you guys think? I’ll be honest, I miss hearing Kristin Anna’s vocals. It just doesn’t sound the same, but hopefully i’m wrong and this album ends up being awesome.

i’ve been saying the same thing fr quite some time nw. heard those songs ages ago. i fink back in january. it’s not really d same without d twins. particularly kristin’s voice. well at least she’s gt a new album with her hubby Avey Tare. i feel really jealous. still, i’d probably buy d nu MUM album, juz to say dat my i’ve got their whole discography in my archives.
Yeah, the track version posted was recorded back in March I think. Still new to me though!
wow, they lost BOTH the twins now? damn. they used to be the core of the band, no?
you’d think that if, say, the stones lost jagger & keith, charlie and ron wouldn’t keep playing as “the rolling stones”. it’s just not cool.
i’ll probably dig on the new album, to see how it flows, but i definitely won’t be heading into it thinking it is a true “mum” album.
kind of sad.
