Recently a poster image for the upcoming Bob Dylan bio pic I’m Not There was put out onto the internet, though not an official image – it sort of looks legit. I haven’t really been keeping my eye on this film too much, but i’ve been intrigued about this ever since the news of the film’s casting. Look at this casting though – you’ve got Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett and Richard Gere as just some of the actors playing different parts of Dylan’s life. Cate Blanchett playing Bob Dylan? Batman as Dylan? That’s either a genius stroke of casting or just simply madness, but at the very least it’s an interesting direction. To be honest before that announcement of casting, I had no clue who I would want to play Dylan.
Not sure when this is coming out, though it completed filming in March. Here’s a small excerpt of what director Todd Haynes had to say about this very ambitious biography:
It’s about his life in a nontraditional way. I’m going to use a variety of characters to tell his story. It’s going to show all of his changes and the way he captured and epitomized the needs in the culture, and the tension that he personified, and his resistance to that which led him to constantly reinvent himself.
Whether or not this film is trying to cash in on the recent trend of musician bio pics, I think it’s great to have this out for people not familiar with his entire career (including myself). For people that discover Dylan now a days, he’s just known as that guy who sounds like a mumbling mess and can’t put on a decent show anymore.

Thanks for the pic PJ. When I first heard of the Dylan idea I immediately felt my inner tail start a slow solid wag; I have to say that the more I see Cate the more dumbfounded I am at her utter changeability. At this point I’m more interested in the film for CB’s sake than for a Dylan fix. I honestly can’t think of any other actor, male or female, who would do better.
I forgot to mention how fascinated I am of that picture of Cate in 60’s Dylan garb (i’m assuming that is her). I wonder if her scenes will just be silent or if she’s actually doing dialogue herself.
This just came to mind actually (4:15 am…yeesh). I remember saying to myself after seeing Reign Over Me that Sandler had a good Dylan look going on….well if Dylan was on crack.
