I heard this new song from Club 8 featured over at Skatterbrain a couple of weeks ago, and let’s just say that i’ve fallen head over heels in love with this pop duo. Only Swedes can put out pop sounds this good, as I couldn’t help but repeat this song over and over. You would think that after constantly replaying this song that I would get sick of it. I’m glad to report that is not the case, as the song holds up quite well to continuous repetition and has easily become one of my favorite songs of the year so far.
I was freaking out about this song to Val of Indietastic at one point and she mentioned how the beginning of the track seemed to sound identical to the beginning of Cindy Lauper’s “Time After Time” which in a funny way is actually kind of true. That’s where the comparisons end though as the charms of “Whatever You Want” are evident as soon as Karolina’s sweet, ethereal vocals appear followed by clapping and whistling, which seem to be characteristics that a good pop song can’t be without now nowadays.
According to their website, the duo of Karolina Komstedt and Johan AngergĂ„rd have been making music together since 1995, which amazes me considering i’ve never heard of them until recently. Better late than never though, as they will be releasing a new album in September on Labrador. Here’s a few tracks off the Labrador website from previous Club 8 albums if you like what you’re hearing, because I certainly do!

The “Time After Time” thing… not just kind of true. Completely true. There’s a couple riffs on the song later in the track too. I wonder if it’s credited in the liner notes…
Not sure if you’ve heard this track, but it’s the one that got me falling in love with Club 8. It’s from the album The Friend I Once Had. Oh how I love sad-eyed Swedish pop.
