Spending the majority of my Sunday lounging around was very relaxing, thank due in part to the sounds of the Pittsburgh quintet Black Moth Super Rainbow. A group who if their music doesn’t immediately grab you, well their name definitely will. This is music you shouldn’t ignore as the group’s third album Dandelion Gum is a wonderful representation of electro-psych pop at it’s finest. Normally i’m not so keen on bands with such descriptions of psychadelic or trippy, but i’ll make the exception for an album that the band themselves describe as “about witches who make candy deep in the woods of western Pennsylvania.”

I’m surely not the best at describing a band’s sound, but overall i’m reminded of a completely tripped out version of Air. Sounds that are defined by heavy vocoder vocals, fuzzed out synths and ridiculously awesome beats. Though incredibly warped, it’s music that’s very melodic and simply a pleasure to listen to with a nice set of headphones on.

Check it out as Dandelion Gum is out now on Graveface Records. The band’s website contains plenty of mp3s to download including a few from their 2006 collaboration album with The Octopus Project titled The House Of Apples & Eyeballs.
