One major thing i have taken from doing these weekly release posts is to not assume that all release dates are true. I’m looking at the charts this week and I see Panda Bear’s Person Pitch on Amazon’s release list, when I thought it came out last month. Maybe it’s just the release date for Amazon, but just a warning to everyone that not all release dates are final until otherwise noted. Just take these as a guideline to what I assume is coming out each week.
Looking at this week’s releases we’ve got the U.S. release of Jarvis the debut from Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. It is a decent record, but I haven’t listened to it much since it’s initial release in the U.K last year. Honestly, it hasn’t grown on me but If you’re craving for another Pulp album, than this is probably as close as you’re gonna get for a long time.
Next, we have Little Pop Rocks from Sister Vanilla, which you could very well look at as a full fledged Jesus & Mary Chain record, except for the small fact that the majority of the vocals are provided by Linda Reid, sister of brothers Jim and William. However, the brothers are featured on the album along with JAMC alum Ben Lurie, but just play a supporting role here. Just don’t think of this as some kind of JAMC reunion album, as you’ll probably be disappointed. If you want a reunion, just go to Coachella.
I haven’t checked out many of these other releases, but one that i’ve been playing the majority of the night is Sia’s Lady Croissant, a live LP recorded at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC that includes tracks from her work with Zero 7 and last year’s Colour the Small One. I don’t normally include live albums here, but this one is definitely worth listening to as she just sounds amazing on these live tracks.
