A couple of days ago I came across a track from a Swedish duo who went by the name of Studio. I went digging around for information but it was quite difficult to find much considering they had such a generic name. I did find a website though and found out that the duo consisted of Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hägg and that they released an album earlier this year that’s only available in Scandinavia as far as I know. It mostly consists of earlier material from various EPs and 7″ dating back as far as 2001.
There was one track in particular that I was immediately smitten with and it’s the very first track off the record called “No Comply” that was previously released as a 12-inch. It’s a nice little pop song that’s definitely inspired by 80’s new wave, and I just really loved the catchy piano line that followed into a really great bass line towards the 3:20 mark. I’m not sure how much I like the vocals as I don’t think they really add too much to the track except for a somewhat catchy chorus, but I could definitely listen to just an instrumental version easily. It’s music that is just easy to like upon first listen, and a very pleasant and welcome surprise.

Easily one of the year’s best releases so far.

Oh also, you can go by Paul now if you wish
i love it! the vocals, at some point, reminded me of Robert Smith, the instrumental part, reminds me of New Order. It’s very nice and easy to hear and like, just like you said! By the way, love your blog, always with great references. keep up the good work.
Hey PJ
Just posted about this album -still under the influence of it- and found your blog, very nice. Beach House is next.
