To those of you who know of The Reindeer Section, remember a track called “Fire Bell” off Y’all Get Scared Now, Ya Hear? I certainly do, though considering how short the track is, it was possibly my favorite off that album. Like i’ve said numerous times here before, years ago there was nothing more that would instantly grab my attention like a pretty, angelic female voice. I used take a lot of flack from friends for expressing my love for everything female singer/songwriters, but that’s neither here nor there. Anyways, upon first hearing Jenny Reeve’s soft, sweet voice on that track, it drove me batty. Her voice is comparable to that of Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, and for me it was kind of the same impact I had upon first listening to Neko Case’s golden voice during “Letter from an Occupant” The New Pornographers’ Mass Romantic. Both voices were only used sparingly and you were left with wanting more. Unlike Neko Case, who has steadily gained much popularity and success with her solo career, i knew absolutely nothing about what Jenny was doing now a days.

All I knew besides the one Reindeer Section track she sang on (just one!), was that she was a vocalist for a band called Eva that was formed in Glasgow, while also being a violinist for the band Arab Strap. Really though, at the time I could not find a single thing about the band or her, whether it be songs, news or anything. Even though she was showcased more on the second Reindeer Section album I still really couldn’t find much about her own work. So years passed and I kind of forgot about it. Not until recently that i discovered that she’s in a new band called Strike the Colours that was formed in 2004. They’ve also had supporting slots for bands like Idlewild and The Posies.

What you read above was copied and pasted from a post I did last July, and was basically all I could dig up in regards to what she was currently working on.  There were a few excellent demos on her myspace page and a hint at the possiblity of a new EP to come sometime in the near future. Finally, that possiblity has come into fruition as the official announcement had finally been made that the debut EP titled The Face That Sunk A Thousand Ships will be released on June 18th!  It’ll feature six tracks and most of which have already been floating around if you’ve been keeping close tabs like myself.  Two tracks are available for download on her myspace, which i’ve included here for you, one of which is an acoustic version of “Safety In Numbers” which will be included on the mini-album and the second track titled “Strangernight” which is a demo that was record with a member of Union of Knives.  You can catch Strike The Colours live as they are currently in the midst of a tour opening for Malcom Middleton, who’s formerly of Arab Strap.
