I think Travis take a lot of flack for not pushing their sound in new directions, and though I tend to agree with that, I expect certain qualities from their music. If you complain that they just play the same style of music, than just look at 12 Memories, because they went for something different and the result ended up being complete piece of shit. Anyways, I don’t want to get into that as I just want to comment on the new video for their first single “Closer” off The Boy with No Name, which was just released in the UK today. I haven’t listened to many tracks, but this single encompasses everything I love about the band. It’s a simple song with a catchy chorus, and just manages to make you feel good inside. That’s all I expect from this band, nothing more. If this is any sign, than this seems to be a return to form.

If you watch the video, there’s an interesting cameo towards the end that caught me by complete surprise. I’m assuming he’s a fan of the group, which is excellent. Like I mentioned before, The Boy with No Name makes it debut today in the UK, but will be making it’s way to the US on May 7th. Still no mention of North American tour dates besides Coachella this week, so i’m still keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

12 Memories is one of those albums hard to “digest”.. For me, it is the most matured, meaningful and best work of the band.
Anywho, lovely video full of puns to the retail business..

    Holly crap.

I’m really relieved because I was, to be honest, a bit apprehensive when I heard that Big Chair song. I admit that 12 Memories may have been a bit off… but you can’t say that they don’t change their sound with each album and take risks. They definitely don’t “Coldplay” it. (I know, I know, you really like Coldplay)

Anyhow, thanks for the video. And it’s awesome that Ben’s there.
