I must say that I was quite surprised to hear that The Rosebuds had to cancel their show two weeks ago in Atlanta, as I was actually trying to figure out a way to make the trip to the show even though that weekend I was caught up in family reunion madness. In anticipation for it, I had been listening to their new album Night of the Furies off and on but over the past week i’ve really gotten into this one. This nine-track record is self-produced and will be released April 10th on Merge Records.

For those that might be attached to their sound from 2005’s Birds Make Good Neighbors, you might possibly be turned off as this has more of a dance music type of influence going on. Not to say it’s a step back, because I look at it as a nice progression in the best way possible. This is a pop album, pure and simple. If you look past the addition of synths and extra drum beats, you’ll see that this is the same band you’ve always known and loved. The familiar vocal melodies between Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp are still there, and they both sound as lovely as can be. Not to say that the entire album is one giant dancefest, as some of the tracks that shy away from that like “My Punishment For Fighting” (one of my favorite tracks of the year so far) almost have a dark and seductive quality to it that adds variety to this already wonderful album.

Check out the track off the new album below and i have also added a few from their previous release.
