If you’ve been browsing around the blogs lately, you’ll notice that there’s a teaser of what’s to come from the upcoming record from The National. The track is called “Fake Empire” and the new album is called Boxer due out on May 22nd. In my opinion, they’re one of the best bands working right now, and like most I first got my taste of Matt Berninger’s amazing voice on 2005’s Alligator. I knew I was listening to something great as I was sold when I first heard that lyric off the second track “Karen” that went something like “Karen, put me in a chair, fuck me and make me a drink.” Seriously, you can’t have a better lyric right there, and I was sold beyond that point.

Listening to “Fake Empire” (from Beggars Banquet) which is the first track off the album apparently, it starts off slow with a nice piano melody before drums and lastly those horns towards the end that really brings the track to a rousing finish. Excellent song, I can’t wait to listen to this album and hopefully it’ll live up to the hype. There’s also a bunch of live dates for the coming months in support of the record, so definitely keep an eye out. I will be keeping my calender clear for that Atlanta date, you can count on that.
