Looking at this week’s releases feels like the calm before the storm as we only have a small handful of goodies to check out before the overload of high-profile albums that are coming down the pipe next week. We’ll cross that bridge when the time comes next week, but for now let’s take a look at what we have right now. Before we start though, I’d like to go ahead and announce the two winners of the STARS album contest from last week. I’m still shocked at how many people commented to have a shot at winning a copy of this great album. I’m sure the band is thrilled to see so many people interested and I just wish I had more copies to give away. But cheers to our two winners Damien and Heath! I’ll be sending both of you emails sometime tomorrow so look out for those. Hopefully we’ll be holding some more future contests soon as I just love seeing how many people participate. Do pick up that album though for those who weren’t fortunate enough to win a copy because it’s great!

In my opinion the one release to really spend your money on this week is We Walked in Song from The Innocence Mission. I listened to it at work yesterday and it’s just a beautiful sounding record and quite possibly one of the group’s best. You can read more about that album here. Another album that’s been available on Itunes since last year is Rosie Thomas’ These Friends Of Mine. I think Pablo mentioned it on his list of favorite EPs though it’s not really one though it is quite short clocking in just a bit over a half hour. It’s still a great collection of tracks and i’d definitely recommend giving it a spin.
Like I said, not many albums this week and most of these have already been discussed here like Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black which gets a U.S. release this week. A lot of people still make a huge fuss over her very public behavior, but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that she has an incredible voice. Another thing i’m noticing is Mason Proper’s There Is a Moth in Your Chest on the list of releases, but i’m kind of confused. I remember listening to this in early 06′ so i’m not sure why it’s being released now in March. Maybe someone can fill in the gap with some info on that. Anyways, next week brings us some heavy-hitters so be prepared!

Ooh, SJ Esau is the discovery of the day for me. Joy! Thanks (:
I heard Amy Winehouse perform on Spinner.com recently (acoustically) and I was shocked by just how great and “unprocessed” her voice is. I think she may be a force to reckon with in the States.
Oh, and thanks so much for the STAR album! That was a nice surprise!
Mason Proper’s CD is RE-RELEASED nationally on Dovecote Records. The album has been completely revamped by John O’Mahoney (Metric, Matt Pond PA).
