Ever since we here at the site first discovered the wonderfully talented Maia Hirasawa, thanks to former contributor Katie, i’ve been keeping a close eye on this adorably cute half-Swedish half-Japanese singer-songwriter. While she’s not performing with fellow Swede Anna Norlin, (aka Hello Saferide) she’s managed to put out her own self-released EP and now will soon be releasing her very first debut LP Though, I’m Just Me in Scandinavia on April 4th via Razzia Records.
Listening to Maia sing you can probably make a connection to Regina Spektor in terms of vocal similarities, but her tracks very much have their own identity as being just great Swedish pop songs. This is most evident on her first single “And I Found This Boy” which jumps right out of the gate with horns, piano and drums aplenty. Honestly, I don’t know how anyone could NOT like this track as it’s just too catchy for it’s own good. There’s been a nice movement to spread the word of this talented musician, so check this out for yourself and do your part!
