This is becoming a great year for new albums releases, as some of my favorite bands/artists are releasing new albums. With everyone all head over heals about The Arcade Fire and whatever other blog bands at the moment, the official announcement of the fifth studio album from Travis has me so excited. Ever since I first listened to The Man Who back in high school, the years that have transpired have given me a deep appreciation and love for what this band is all about. Easily one of my favorite bands ever and the aformentioned album being one of my favorites of all-time. I still listen to all their albums regularly and they sound just as good as ever.
Consider new album The Boy With No Name my Neon Bible, as you can have your Arcade Fire. This is the kind of music that makes me giddy and excited. The album will be released on May 7th, with the first single “Closer” being released in the UK on April 23rd. You can actually listen to the single on the band’s myspace, so keep an eye out as they might add more tracks to be streamed there as well. I’m just hoping that date is for a US release as well or i’ll be pretty pissed. That’s gonna be a huge month for me with that release along with Rufus Wainwright’s new album in the same month.
I’ve listened to the single a number of times and it doesn’t seem to be much has changed with the band’s sound, which is a good thing. I actually found another new track from the album on I AM FUEL, YOU ARE FRIENDS called “Big Chair” but it’s a BBC radio-rip. Anyways, check that out here and look for the band in April as they’re planning on performing at Coachella this year. Let’s just hope that they tour the southeast once a US tour is announced.

Thanks for the song!
the stream is playing the track a tad bit slow, so just download it instead.
Haha that’s just weird! I was the guy that ripped this from the radio 1 stream and only sent it to a few other folk on the Travis messageboard now I keep finding all over the net!
Anyhoo..there’s a better version of it without Chris Martin at the start which was ripped from the band’s myspace when they had it up last week. I can’t find it just now but I’ll send it your way if I do!
P.S. Totally agree about how exciting it is! Before Big Chair came along I was hyped for Neon Bible but now there’s only ONE release I can’t wait for!
Well, can I be head over heals about Arcade Fire AND nticipate this one?
Dido, for what Pablo said. Well actually, Paul you become obsessed with Travis, Pablo you become infatuated with Arcade Fire. And I’ll figuratively stalk the idea that Andrew Bird’s new album will be the favorite of the year when all is said and done.
I met the guys from Travis back in 1999 when The Man Who came out…they’re some of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, always willing to talk to their fans and have a good chat.
Thanks for posting the new song! Will check it out!
Haha I was wondering if that was Chris Martin’s voice on that radio rip. That’s interesting.
amen. The Radio Dept. is such an underappreciated band. Especially their new album. They’re absolutely amazing.
Um, Travis? Really? Travis? Over the genuinely earnest Arcade Fire? I always thought they were everything that was wrong with the Brits. The over-sentimentalism of the non-Richey Manic Street Preachers, the Brit male melisma of Thom Yorke (without the creepy melodies), and the self-importance that similarly affects Coldplay (who has to have the most didactic lyrics I’ve ever heard…”Fix You”=what a jerk!). I’ll give it a shot, but I gotta say, so far I’m not too impressed.
I’d have to say that my favorite Travis record is Good Feelings, their first, which sounds nothing like the tepid The Man Who, and features the completely awesome song, “Do You Wanna Rock?”.
I’ll be honest that ripped Travis track is not that good, and i’ll admit that their last album 12 Melodies wasn’t really that great either. That being said, i’m still excited to hear something new from the band. I’ll be the first one to call out if the new album is rubbish but it doesn’t hurt to be excited for something.
I guess i just have a strong affinity for the band because of the time period that I initially discovered them. Anyways, i’m not sure i’m making any sense cos i’m typing this at 3 am. These have been my favorite bands for years, and i’m not suddenly going to start hating them.

Congratulations on making yourself look very silly.
Finally – Chris Martin acknowledges how Travis paved the road for bands like Coldplay and Keane. Travis – forever the true heirs the Radiohead throne.
Loving the new track. It’s catchy, different from their other songs but beautiful lyrics and melody.
And I must say, “12 Memories” is one of my favorite albums EVER. A thoughtful masterpiece. I am, however, delighted to see Nigel Godrich’s return to Travis!
Half the tracks from the new album have been leaked by Fran on the band’s myspace page. Do a search on the Travisonline msgboard for download links.
You ought to hear ‘Selfish Jean’ off the new album. Fran ripped off his own lyrics from Standing On My Own but it sounds like a totally different song.
