I apologize for not posting last week’s Graboid up as I kept putting it off so far into the week that it was the weekend and I still hadn’t started on it. I figured i’d just combine it with this weeks and call it a day. There were a few good releases last week though, including Field Music and Lucinda Williams’ latest – which I will not post any tracks from because I don’t want bad emails ever again. This week brings us nice set of new releases that includes the highly anticipated All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone from Explosions in the Sky, a best of Arab Strap compilation and Tujiko Noriko’s Solo that I just wrote a semi-review for a few minutes ago.

A couple of releases that are dear to my heart are the solo work of Jill Cunniff, formerly of Luscious Jackson – who also have a Greatest Hits compilation out this week as well. I remember being really, really excited about the news of Jill working on a solo record as I was genuinely bummed out when I heard the news of the group breaking up several years ago. Not that they were ground-breaking or anything, but really just put out some quality pop songs during that point in time. I haven’t had time to listen to City Beach, save for a couple of songs, but i’m definitely looking forward to listening to all of it sometime this week.

What i wrote earlier about my glasses making me feel like a new man is for real, as i’m starting to feel at ease once again with posting about music regularly. At the same time, I feel kind of overwhelmed with catching up with a lot of the music that has come out in the past couple of months or will be coming out. Anyone have any recommendations as to some good albums to check out? Would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully we can get this site rolling again from slacker status to being a site you can regularly check everyday for something new.

I was kinda looking forward to the Jill Cunniff album, unfortunately, when i gave it a quick listen at the record store I was slightly disappointed to hear that it sounded like another Luscious Jackson album. I too enjoyed Luscious Jackson for their quirky brand of downtempo pop but Jill’s lp left me underwhelmed and feeling like she hasn’t made any great strides in the “new ideas” department. shame.

It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to anything Luscious Jackson, but it will be refreshing to have a few cuts from Cunniff.
