My internet has been kinda sketchy this entire week so I want to apologize for having the Daily Graboid up so late. It’d kinda odd because there are some points where the internet is fully functional as I can chat on instant messenger, but I can’t view any websites. Very odd though, and it’s pissing me off more than anything.

I think one thing i’d like to to improve with this features is extending it to releases outside of the US. It kinda seems like overload though so i’ve alway decided to not try it. There’s always great stuff coming out though, so if anyone of our international readers would like to recommend anything please do so.

Headlining this week’s releases is the sixth studio LP from Elephant Six Collective members The Apples in Stereo. New Magnetic Wonder which was released on Simian Records, is a brand new label founded by Elijah Wood. Besides being more of the catchy pop you know and love, the reclusive Jeff Mangum even guests on it even though it’s mostly random things like drums and cow bells or something.

Bloc Party’s A Weekend In The City is also released today. I actually really liked Silent Alarm, but I felt the album didn’t have any kind of longevity to it as the tracks got really old quickly to me. Sadly, I only listened to the single so far and it didn’t give me any interest in wanting to listen to anymore of it right now.

As far as the other releases go, everyone by now should know how much I love Sondre Lerche and even though his latest Phantom Punch isn’t up to snuff as whole, you can’t deny how ace a couple of these tracks are. The US release of Peter, Bjorn & John’s Writer’s Block should definitely be picked up because there are plenty more songs besides “Young Folks” to listen to. Also, Over the Rhine has released a collection of songs in i’m not sure what to call it. Is it a “best of” sort of deal? I have no clue, but having something like this wouldn’t be so bad to pick up.

Thank you for justifying my disinterest in Bloc Party. I was so excited when I bought their first album, because some of the songs were purely awesome, but I hardly wanted to hear them a few weeks later. They were like entirely sugar and no substance. The new album seems to be neither sugar or substance. I would enjoy someone proving me wrong though.

    Sondre is so darn cute.

I feel like he doesn’t get enough recognition for that.

    So I’m recognizing it.
