Continuing on with the remix tip, i’ve got a couple of remix tracks from Aussie faves The Avalanches. One track in partcular, “Ray of Zdarlight” has been playing constantly in my headphones for the past week. This incredibly good mashup of “Ray of Sunlight” from Wham! and “Zdarlight” from Digitalism is just way too good to keep to one’s self. If you’re looking for a solid dance track then definitely check it out, or if you’re just looking to quench your secret George Michael fixation.
They’ve also got a slew of goodies on their currently being reworked website, as I also have a re-edited version of Carl Craig’s remix of their own track “A Different Feeling” off their last album. I imagine that they’re gearing up for a new album so that’s definitely something to be excited about as it feels like it’s been way too long since the release of Since I Left You. I remember telling my friends about that album when it was first released and received a lot of negative feed back because of the abundance of sampling and apparently not really showcasing any real skills. I thought it was pretty insane what they were saying, but to each their own as the material still sounds just as good and fresh to me as it did a few years ago.

Just for the record, I’m totally stoked for new Avalanches material too. If I had to keep just three sample-based albums, “Since I Left You” would definitely be one of them (along with Shadow’s “Endtroducing” and RJD2’s “Dead Ringer”). “Ray of Zdarlight” has been played a ton on my ipod the last week or two…
