K-os (pronounced ‘chaos’) is a rapper/singer from Toronto that is perhaps best known amongst the indie kids for his guest bit in the song “Windsurfing Nation” from Broken Social Scene’s self-titled album. I’d heard of him before then, but it was that track that finally led me to check out his stuff, and I’ve got to say, K-os is one MC with true cross-genre potential due to his willingness to break from hip-hop convention and the simple fact that he’s just good at what he does.

His previous albums have shown he’s talented as both a rapper and a singer, and that he’s got a good sense of melody too, which never hurts. Tuesday his third full-length comes out, Atlantis (Hymns for Disco), and it’s hot, and I mean that in a way the hip-hop heads and the indie hipsters can probably agree on.

This album is a bit more sung than his previous outings, and a few songs even seem a little more rock than hip-hop, such as “Valhalla,” which I’ve posted below. In any case, give it a shot, you just may like it. You can stream the whole album on his Myspace, or if you want a smaller taste first, here’s a couple of tracks… Enjoy!

From Atlantis (Hymns for Disco)

K-os – “Sunday Morning”
K-os – “Valhalla”
And as a little bonus, Broken Social Scene – “Windsurfing Nation (Feat. K-os)”

That’s very nice. I want to say “refreshing” without sounding too cliche.
