I can’t say that i’m very knowledgeable about Amy Winehouse besides the fact that she’s out Southgate, London and her very public reputation for very brash behavior that includes assaulting fans, alcohol-induced problems and heckling Bono at the Q Awards no less (OH NO!) . That shouldn’t be the focus of her because what i’m more impressed with is the vocal talent of this mere 23 year old. Listening to her channel great jazz and soul female vocalists along with combining it with modern beats manages to create this layer of sound that you just can’t ignore.
She’s gotten a lot of love from many blogs, but I really didn’t listen until I ultimately gave in and checked out the tracks Music is Art put up on their site. It’s moments like that I wonder why I avoid giving into hype until the last possible moment. Anyways, Back To Black, the follow-up to 2003’s debut Frank, has been out in the UK since October but will be making it’s way here sometime in March I think. Definitely listen to these tracks and experience this amazing talent for yourselves.

Amy Winehouse is fun. I heard somewhere that she sometimes performs under the influence, so I think that makes the song “Rehab” slightly hilarious.
Sorry, but the girl is a complete arse, to the extent that I can’t listen to her music at all any more without involuntary teeth-grinding. That title should really read ‘Amy Winehouse Pumps Herself’ as her entire career seems to be one long exercise in self-obssessed, vainglorious self-congratulation. Can’t bloody stand the girl.
Sorry not to be more constructive!
yeah her public behavior i try to ignore, and I really didnt even know about it until I did research for this post. It’s a shame though, but what can you do.
yaaay
glad you enjoyed amy… regardless of the current life she leads, her music truly proves she has pure soul!
Best new music in years. If you’re missing/skipping this stuff because of her antics, then it would suggest you’ve got a pretty stale music collection. Really, that’s just foolish. The greatest musicians in the world have always been a little unstable.
I got hip to her via Ghostface’s More Fish record. Looked her up and saw the wheels-off stories and found myself mildly intrigued. Once I heard Back to Black, and Rehab and some of the snippets from other songs on this record, I threw any judgement of her out the window. Good music is good music regardless of how bananas the artist is.
I thought the song “Back to Black” was really amazing and was hoping the whole album would be great but I just don’t care for the other tracks I’ve heard from it very much.
