Listening to The Twilight Sad is like going back in time to where the emotions of adolescence reigned supreme. Feelings of love, heartbreak and dreams of a more promising youth. It suits the tracks well as they begin slow and end on an epic note with soaring guitars similar to that of the more modern post-rock heavyweights. It would be foolish to not say that these are all very anthemic songs. These are just great songs and what takes heart with each are the vocals of James Graham, who’s heavy Scottish accent (they’re from Glasgow) echoes that of Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat with a little bit of Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian tossed in for good measure. It could be a bit of a turnoff for most people, but I think his voice works very well with the music.
Their debut EP was released in the U.S. only this past November on Fat Cat Records as they also played a number of shows towarsd the end of the year. There’s no word yet on an exact full-length release but expect it sometime this year. All I can say is that i’m definitely looking forward to hear it. It’s really worth your time to check out this EP to experience a melancholy yet intense listening experience.

Try The Duke Special: he sings in a Belfast accent which is the first time I’ve heard that one – quite strange!
