After months of waiting, a full-length trailer for the Transformers movie is finally upon us.  It’s nice to finally get to see a glimpse of some of the most iconic cartoon characters fully realized on the big screen.  I had been kinda skeptical about the whole thing especially after seeing the toys and with some of the decisions about some of the characters (Bumblee a Camaro? Are you fucking kidding me?).  I think everything was laid to rest though just from seeing Optimus Prime transform, if only we had a sample of Peter Cullen’s Optimus voice during that small scene and all would be perfect in the world.

I’ve already talked here plenty of times about Transformers, and you know what?  I have no problem saying i want to see this. There’s also no shame in saying i enjoy the Transformers movie that was released in 1986, in which no self-respecting geek is without the DVD. You remember the movie right? Where they killed Optimus Prime (just typing that kills me) and just about every autobot got shot the fuck up by Megatron. Oh, and Orson Welles’ last movie role. Read a review of the movie here from X-Entertainment which is probably one of the best sites on the internet in relation to 80′s toys/cartoons/movies.

With Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg attached to this you can expect a fun popcorn movie where lots of shit blows up.  There were a few things I was hoping for, but with the sort-of realistic tone of that preview these things will probably never happen:

A. Have more of the original voice cast (Megatron, Starscream – though I think that guy is dead as he also was Cobra Commander’s voice, etc…)
B. Megatron turns into a big fucking gun with Starscream shooting people up with it.  Though I heard he’s going to be a jet or something completely lame.  Too bad.
C. No Arcee and Hotrod, please god.
D. Dinobots: Yes, please. Grimlock!
E. If Soundwave is in here, i hope he’s still a giant boombox that shoots transforming cassettes at people.

If I happened to just lose some indie credibility with this, then you can go die in a fire. Oh and no Transformers movie from here on out is complete without this song, because it’s the best song ever.  With TMNT and Transformers, all we need now is a G.I. Joe film.  Click here to watch the new trailer.

Looks less cartoonish than I imagined it would. That’s awesome! Honestly, I started hyperventilating by the time I saw Optimus Prime!
    :D

Personally, I think the designs are disappointing. The Megatron model is just flat out awful.

They look like Lego Bionicle guys. I don’t like the design either which I was talking about with seeing the toys.

I agree — this trailer has me encouraged. I was really worried that this would be a stinker. We’ll see.

As for GI Joe, I’d worry even more about that. Mostly because they’re people, and it would be a huge ensemble cast. Casting would be critical, and they’d have to keep it somewhere between your typical war movie and its cartoon/comic roots. Seems that would be difficult.

I would like a sufficient explanation for why both GI Joe and Cobra always miraculously eject before their vehicles destroyed, and why both sides use non-lethal weapons.

FYI, if you watch the TF trailer at the official site now, you do get to hear Optimus Prime speak at the end.

By the way, my understanding is that Bumblebee isn’t a VW anymore because Volkswagen wouldn’t license the use of their brand in the film. It’d probably be silly if he were a new Beetle anyway.

I remember hearing rumors of a planned GI Joe film but I completely agree with what you’re saying about that. I don’t think it’s possible nor could it be taken seriously as a live-action movie. I’m not really a big fan of GI Joe anyways, I watch the episodes that sometimes air on Cartoon Network and it’s the only cartoon that’s ever made me ashamed of ever liking it when I was a child.

I don’t see where Optimus speaks on this trailer. Hmmm.

In the version on the official site, it’s at the very end. He says “freedom is the right of all sentient beings.”
