If you happened to catch the season finale of Nip/Tuck last Tuesday, than you might’ve noticed the use of three songs from our good friends The Submarines.  Along with featuring “The Good Night” and “Modern Inventions”, towards the end of the episode the entire cast lip-synced “Brighter Discontent” for the full duration of the song.  I was pretty shocked at seeing it, but it was an unique idea to use with the show.  I’ve never been a big fan of the show but I just thought it was so nice to see the band getting that kind of exposure and hopefully gaining some mainstream popularity from it.

We love The Submarines here, or at least I do.  Their debut Declare a New State! is my #2 album of the year, and the more I think about it – it’s feels more like my #1.  If I were to get someone a music-related Christmas gift, it would be that album.  Besides that, they’re just two of the nicest people that I have been fortunate enough to meet in person.  I’ve already went on and on about how much I love it to pieces, but it’s the truth.  It makes you believe in love and it is music for the hopeless romantic in all of us.  It comes off as bittersweet but if you know what happened between Blake and John with the recording of it, well you just know that there’s a happy ending to all of it resulting in a more hopeful tone overall.

So yeah, pick up the record and catch the reruns of Nip/Tuck if you can.  I think they have two new EPs available on Itunes as well.  They also have their own t-shirt on the best t-shirt site ever, Threadless.  It’s theme is based off “Peace and Hate” which is such a wonderful track.  Ok, that’s enough!  It just gives me such a great feeling to see them everywhere and that they’re finding so much success.  Here’s a few tracks featured on the episode, I really can’t recommend this album enough to everyone.

Couldn’t agree with you more – The Submarines are fantastic and the story behind the pair makes the music even richer.

Their remix EP is good, too.
