Hey everyone, Paul here introducing Chandler, our newest contributor to the blog. He’s a buddy of Andy and I from here in Auburn. Along with Andy, he also has his own radio show on WEGL 91.1 on Sunday nights from 8-10 pm cst (i think?) called The Dr. Rock & Capt. Fantasy Show. It took a lot of coaxing to finally get him to join us, but we’re glad he finally decided to hop on board. So this is the first of hopefully many more submissions from him. It’s nice to have the three of us (and Pablo out there in Utah!) providing some sort of voice of Auburn since it’s reputation has been absolute shit in terms of music. Anyways, do give your support!

As the new year rolls around, I begin to organize all of my end-of-the-year lists. One of the bands that I find near the top of both my top albums and top songs lists is Human Television.
Back in May they released their debut album, Look at Who You’re Talking To. From first glance, they may appear to be another one of those dime a dozen Indiepop bands. However, the songs come off as forgotten gems, stuff you would have heard on any respectable college radio station in the 80’s. Their influences are easily identified — you have your shoegazer in the opening track, “I’m Moving On,” and the cool demeanor of Dean Wareham transplanted in most of the album’s tracks (most notably on “I Laughed” and “Inconsistent”).
This is an album that will age well due to the familiarities presented in the songs. The packaging for the album isn’t half bad, either, featuring a painting they found lying near a dumpster in New York and a nifty clear slipcase.

Speaking of Auburn having a reputation for shit music, I saw Iratowns once. That’s all I’ll say about that.
Human TV got Matt from KissAtlanta all excited when they played here this summer. I missed the set, but did wind up working the merch booth with one of their band members. Long story.
That’s a band you saw here in Auburn? Sorry for that then
haha
The last good performer (to my knowledge) to grace this town was Ben Folds. I was only 15 at the time and I didn’t get to go cos I had no license. Let’s see…that was 8 years ago. Downhill from than on.
Actually I saw them in Memphis, in January of ‘98. But they were an Auburn band at the time.
