I remember the first time I was introduced to Explosions In The Sky and really just coming into discovering post-rock in general. It was during my senior year of high school and a friend let me listen to “Magic Hours.” I was instantly drawn to it, mesmorized even. I still consider it one of their best even though as we all happened to witness, their sound evolved to completely breathtaking levels with 2003’s The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place and their contributions to 2004’s Friday Night Lights soundtrack. That album was just truly amazing, as it was music that was completely immersive and just managed to bring out all these unrealized emotions upon listening. Quite simply as i’ve said once before here, if that album didn’t move you in anyway than you seriously have no heart.
The news of the release of the next EITS’ album has already been mentioned on two of my favorite blogs, Skatterbrain and I Guess I’m Floating along with great write-ups about the band. After reading both of their posts it felt like I had no more to even add as they managed to explain how truly beautiful and amazing their music is and has become over the last couple of years. After the release of The Rescue EP in 2005 (which you can still download at their site and read more about it here), our wishes have been fulfilled and a new album entitled All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone will be bestowed upon us on February 20th, 2007.
Thankfully, a song off the album is available to download, and it’s well worth your time to give it a thorough listen. The song “Welcome, Ghosts” just manages to build on the tone that was established with the last album. It’s funny how listening this affects me differently as opposed to when I listened to Beach House’s album a while back. That album completely brought me down as opposed to listening to this which just evokes a feeling of peacefulness and hopeful solitude. I can’t wait to lose myself in this album once it’s released as it’s already being discussed as an early contendor for album of the year.

Really looking forward to the new album. I was very tempted to buy a ticket for the London gig when it was announced but held off in anticipation of a visit to Ireland later in the year.
By all accounts from a couple of trusted opinions I know who saw them last time out in Ireland, they are absolutely fucking mindblowing live.
The new song is a nice appetiser. A lot of familiar elements, you’d know it was Explosions really quickly. Maybe it’s a slightly brighter sounding track compared to their orthodox.
Wow! I’m taking a listen to their stuff at eMusic: Very nice.
First Breath After Coma sounds extremely familiar. Was it used in a movie recently?
Yeah, they contributed to the Friday Night Lights soundtrack a few years ago. I think they still use their music on the tv show that’s currently on as well if i’m not mistaken.
