I hope everyone had a nice Christmas holiday as it’s nice to get back to posting after a semi-break from posting. I’ve come to realize over the years that Christmas just gets worse as you get older. The holiday has just become extremely boring and lame for me. I mean I get joy out of giving presents than receiving, but I think there’s nothing more to it now as it’s now just a time I look forward to so I can eat a lot of food.

A couple of things that have occupied my time during the holidays is this new Deerhoof track off the upcoming album Friend Opportunity. I’m been more of a semi-fan of the group as their music has always been kind of skattered for me, but they absolutely can’t be touched when they’re hitting their marks. There’s no other shining example than listening to “+81″ as so infectious that I couldn’t get Satomi’s simple little chorus out of my head. It opens with trumpets and a simple guitar riff and as soon as that chorus comes in, well it’s all over by than for you as you’ll be sucked into the charm of this track. CHOO CHOO CHOO BEEP BEEP – who knew something so simple could be so addicting.

This is enough to have me highly looking foward to this release on January 23rd. They’ll be playing a boatload of dates in support of the release so do check them out. Also if you happen to glance at the top of their Kill Rock Stars website, you’ll see a link to an EP download full of live tracks and covers. Yay!

[...] Headlining this week’s batch of goodies are The Shins’ Wincing the Night Away which is decent, but as anyone who’s been around me lately knows that i’ve been very anti-Shins since their “change your life” bullshit popularity from Garden State. Of Montreal’s Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? is definitely worth picking up, as is every one of their albums. I’m still not completely sold on it as I found it somewhat underwhelming compared to Satanic Panic in the Attic and The Sunlandic Twins. If you’re up for an album that’s pure electro-dance from beginning to end, then you’ll be satisfied in that aspect. Rounding out the big name albums is Deerhoof’s Friend Opportunity, which i’m completely in love with as you have one of the catchiest singles of the year with “+81″ along with a slew of tracks that are just as good.
