Like I had mentioned in a previous post, listening to all these holiday-themed songs were getting me into the spirit of Christmas.  It almost feels like overload but I think it was needed for me to actually care.  Though the holiday is not that important to me in our house anymore, i’m sure it’s still special to a lot of you.  I think listening to WOXY’s Holiday Mixer was what got me interested in making a mix and someone else told me to make one anyways.  If you’ve been listening to that at all, you’ll notice a lot of tracks that have been playing there.  I also tossed in a few unique songs myself for a more lightened mood.  This mix is enormous though, so much that I decided to split it with posting half today and the rest on Wednesday.  Hope you enjoy and here’s a lame Christmas story that I happen to remember for you to read just because.

For some reason a fond memory of the holiday for myself was when the NES (the original 8-bit Nintendo system) was starting it’s decline into it’s eventual move to it’s 16-bit Super Nintendo system.  I think I remember it so much because it was the last time I actually got something I wanted for Christmas before I started to get gifts of socks, clothes and whatever other lame presents a kid should be getting.  Anyways, there was this game I wanted at Toys “R” Us called Dr. Mario, which I consider one of the best puzzle games after Tetris.  I had no idea why I wanted the game though, because what 7-8 year old kid wants to play lame puzzle games about trying to kill viruses with multi-colored pills?  Maybe because Mario was on the front cover, and that was enough for me.  I remember when knowing that it was wrapped and under the tree, and I would keep opening the game and playing it than telling my mother to wrap it back up and put it back under the tree.  I think I did this several times, and once Christmas came, I didn’t even care about the game anymore cos I had played it so much.  So yeah, there’s a life lesson for you….don’t open your fucking presents early.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the C-3PO with R2-D2 track is used for torture purposes only.

I know the marketing of Star Wars has been out of control for 30 years, but whatever cash-grab that inspired the Xmas album and TV holiday special is a special kind of sick greed.

Something similar happend to me at about the same age. I wanted Dr. Mario and didn’t know why, other than I loved Mario. When I got it for Christmas that year I was so disappointed that it was a puzzle game. My mom started playing it and she still plays it now. I guess that shows you how marketing to kids equals big bucks.

Don’t know why I’m hunting down Christmas music in the middle of the summer but it led me to stumble in to your mix. Got some tracks I haven’t come across but hope to now track down.
