Here’s a little interesting project I found out about thanks to Torr. It’s called The Cake Sale and it’s a band featuring an expansive collective of musicians and writers who have combined to create a wonderful 9-song album. It was released in Ireland on November 3rd and all profits will go to support Oxfam Ireland’s Make Trade Fair campaign and their overseas programme work.

Songs on the album have been written by Dave Geraghty, Emm Gryner, Paul Noonan, Glen Hansard, Ollie Cole, Damien Rice, The Thrills and Matt Lunson.

Lead vocalists for the project include Lisa Hannigan, Nina Persson, Gary Lightbody, Gemma Hayes, Glen Hansard, Josh Ritter, Conor Deasy and Neil Hannon (fuck yeah!).

I must say that this is a pretty stellar collective of musicians, not to mention all the songs are spectacular in their own right. I’m pretty sure you can order this one globally online from Road Records for 19.99 Euros. I managed to get one track from this album for you all to listen to but you can stream a majority of the tracks on the myspace page as well as on the website. I highly recommend you do as well as pick up a copy because of course it’s for a good cause.

Here’s a video of “Some Surprise” which features vocals from Gary Lightbody and Lisa Hannigan. I swear listening to this song makes me foam at the mouth for another Reindeer Section album. Wouldn’t that be nice? Both vocalists sound excellent and at the top of their games on this sweet little acoustic track. Honestly, this is one of the best tracks i’ve heard in months. I will definitely be picking this one up if possible.

Are the tracks playing slow when you press the play button? The actual song after downloading sounds fine though, just though you all should know.

This is selling really well in Ireland at the moment. One of the more obscure names on their is also one of the most talented: a chap called Matt Lunson, who’s actually Tasmanian but has been living in Dublin for years. He had an album out last year called Miss Vaughan, which I really liked.

Listen to ‘Softly Spoken Boy’ on his myspace page.
