James Eric | Bringing Sexy Back with Covers and More!
Posted by Paul in The Yellow Stereo
Sorry for not posting anything the last couple of days. There was apparently some area outage on Halloween morning with our internet service provider here. I’d like to mention that I was pretty pissed about that day because, I was actually looking forward to giving out candy that night as it was the first Halloween spent at the location we had just recently moved to. I left work early and even spent $30 on candy. So I was sitting on the couch with NOTHING to do (our tv cable was out too) and apparently there were absolutely no trick or treaters in our neighborhood. What the hell? It was pretty much dead the entire night. I must’ve missed something but I was very confused and ended up spending the majority of the night eating most of the candy myself (Reeses cups are good shit!).
So yeah, I recieved this email a few days ago from someone explaining how they’d heard this cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” at a radio station in NY. Apparently I wasn’t the only blog that recieved an email as several people have mentioned it as well. What’s interesting though is that the person who covered the track, James Eric or James Eric Laczkowski from Chicago, IL, was a name I was already familiar with previously. A few friends of mine, who if they’re reading this should chime in with some info about the guy as i’m sure they know a lot more, had him on their myspace and livejournal lists as a friend. He’s even on my own myspace friend list and I didn’t even realize it. Shows how much effort I put into trying to find things.
Besides those connections, I had to write about this anyways as anyone who’s trying to bring sexy back deserves some attention. I’m also one to admit that I enjoy listening to Justin Timberlake, and there’s no shame in admitting it yourself! Listen to the cover as it’s a nice little reinterpretation of the track as it’s a complete 180 from the original (for those who might be ashamed). If you check James’ website you’ll find a smorgasbord of covers, live tracks and instrumentals that he’s done.

I don’t know what else to add about Jim except that I’ve met and corresponded with him and he’s a stellar guy. The world would benefit with more like him.
