I’m still in a bit of catch-up mode with writing anything here but I figured i’d go ahead and mention The Blow here even though they’ve been heavily discussed in a number of other blogs already. Plus, i’ve been playing the hell out of these two songs for the past couple of weeks and they have yet to sound stale or redundant to met yet. I think that’s what the appeal is for me about this band is that the songs are so simple with those hooks that manage to find their way under your skin and into your brain and fester for days to create little The Blow babies. Ok, that maybe a bit much but let’s just be in agreeance that these tracks are wonderful pop songs and extremely catchy.

The Blow is the duo of Jona Bechtolt and Khaela Maricich. It seems being a male/female duo is the formula for success in indie-pop right now and they manage to keep this trend going thankfully. Does anyone ever get sick of this stuff? I certainly don’t as I can’t get enough of this stuff. I love the quirky drum machine work from Bechtolt and Maricich’s light and sweet vocal style doesn’t ever get overpowered with all the beats and sounds. Everything melds together well and the end result are these great pop songs you are listening to now.

Keep an eye out for this duo as they’ll be releasing their upcoming album Paper Television on October 26 on K Records. Also i’d like to mention an unique idea a video blog came up with in reviewing The Blow’s “Pile of Gold” a while back. Check that out here. It’s really well done and and something that stands out from what a lot of us blogs are currently doing.
