Guest Contribution | The Album Leaf, Band of Horses, Bjork, Tristeza
Posted by Paul in The Yellow StereoHey everyone, Paul here with a guest submission from Slade, a long-time reader and friend of The Yellow Stereo. Seriously, been a reader almost since the time I started this back in April. Anywho, enjoy his selections and if anyone else would like to submit anything, you’re always welcome!
Usually when I see a familiar band listed on The Yellow Stereo I also start thinking about other familar bands. Maybe they sound similar, have been on tour together, live and record in the same country, etc. After reading Paul M’s post about The Album Leaf’s new release, I offer these additional tracks from the Leaf’s In a Safe Place. In case you don’t know already, In a Safe Place was recorded in Iceland at Sigur Ros’ studio and features tracks with some of the band members. I believe some other guest artists appear as well (Mum and Black Heart Procession). These are really enjoyable songs.
Since I can’t think of Iceland without thinking of Bjork, I chose probably my two my favorite Bjork tracks ever. They’re from the live release Vespertine Live. Both”All is Full of Love” and “Hidden Place” are amazing tunes and these are great live versions.
Anyways, back to Album Leaf. I went on a Explosions in the Sky kick a while back and as I was picking up one of their cd’s on Amazon they recommended Album Leaf (I grabbed One Day I’ll Be On time). Amazon had also recommended Tristeza so I also grabbed Dream Signals in Full Circles which had gotten some good reviews. So, my favorite two tracks off it are included for enjoyment. I really dig these tracks
Two from The Album Leaf album In a Safe Place
1. “Over The Pond”
2. “The Outer Banks”
Two from Band of Horses Tour EP
1. “Savannah Part One (demo)”
2. “Billion Day Funeral (live)”
Two from Bjork release Vespertine – Live
1. “All is Full of Love”
2. “Hidden Place”
Two from Tristeza Dream Signals in Full Circles
1. “Building Peaks”
2. “Are We People”

Great tracks Slade, I remember I bought that Album Leaf album solely for that Jonsi collaboration.
Love the Bjork live tracks too.
I found out about Album Leaf because of the Sigur Ros collab as well… Always nice to see great minds working together (and it not sounding like a total mess, as sometimes happens)!
band of Horses are pretty ace, thanks for the live link
