This week gives us an abundance of wonderful new album releases. With the lackluster offering from last week, this definitely makes up for that in impressive fashion. Most of these I haven’t listened to in their entirety, but i’ve heard enough to warrant a recommendation and/or should just get mentioned anyways. Please sample these songs and buy the albums!
The Delgados | The Complete BBC Peel Sessions
The Delgados | “Primary Alternative”
The Delgados | “Parcel of Rogues”
With The Delgados being no more, it’s nice to have this collection released. They were a wonderful band and put out some of the best pop music you could listen to. Very sad as they were truly coming into their own with their more recent releases.
Forget Cassettes | Salt
Forget Cassettes | “Venis On”
Forget Cassettes | “Quiero, Quieres”
I randomly found myself listening to this band. Initially I didn’t think i’d like it too much, but i think the appealing factor is Beth Cameron, who brings a PJ Harvey-esque quality as a confident vocalist along with bringing the fire with her guitar playing.
Jim Noir | Tower of Love
Jim Noir | “Computer Song”
Jim Noir | “Key of C”
Ever since i heard these songs months ago, i’ve been patiently awaiting the release of this album. Tower of Love delivers as a pure pop gem, with Jim Noir being such a talented musician. I still haven’t seen the Addidas commercial though….
Kaki King | …Until We Felt Red
Kaki King | “Yellowcake”
Kaki King | “Jessica”
I got tipped off to this no less then a week ago, and i am absolutely in love with this album. She’s such an amazing guitarist, which is showcased here as a lot of the songs here are just full instrumental acoustic guitar that has a very atmospheric vibe. The few precious tracks that involve Kaki’s singing voice are just so lovely. Definitely one i’ll be delving deeper into here on the blog sometime soon.
Matthew Friedberger | Winter Women\Holy Ghost Language
Matthew Friedberger | “Under the Hood at the Paradise Garage”
Matthew Friedberger | “Quick As Cupid”
I’m not sure what to say about this album. One disc full of tracks from Matthew Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces would be more then enough. But two? That’s overload for me, and something that will take me a while to digest fully. I’ve been listening more to the Winter Women disc as I feel it’s a bit more accessible, which is not saying a lot though considering who we’re talking about.
Sigur Rós | Sæglópur EP
Sigur Rós | “Refur”
Sigur Rós | “Kafari”
Too much Sigur Rós is never a bad thing. I’ve always bought these little single releases from the group as they always have somethign to offer, whether it be a new track or dvds that have their beautiful music videos. This EP is more of the same as it provides a few outtakes that are very subdued and mildly light compared to what you would typically hear from them. Also contains a dvd with videos of “Glósóli”, “Hoppípolla”, and “Sæglópur”. May not be worth it to most people, but to me it is.
