Hey- this is Paul M, and now that I’ll be posting a couple of times a week, I’ve decided to go by Pablo to avoid confusion with Paul G. And, to celebrate my new Latin posting name, I’m going to post some Chilean rock for y’all to love.
Los Bunkers hail from Concepcion, Chile, and have been a band since 1999, but their latest album, Vida de Perros (Dog Life), is the first to make it to the States. Their music is pretty much straightforward, slightly old-school rock with catchy melodies, so they’re often compared to bands like the Strokes. However, I suspect their old-school vibe doesn’t come from the whole garage revival thing we’ve had going on up here. You see, in South America they never stopped loving classic rock like the Rolling Stones, and I feel Los Bunkers are getting their groove directly from the source. In any case, the results are consistently good, and often great.
Here are three tracks off Vida de Perros. “Llueve sobre la ciudad” is Los Bunkers at perhaps their most danceable, and I really dig “Ahora que no estás” for its long instrumental breakdown reminiscent of an older Built to Spill song minus the other 16 guitars Doug Martsch would have recorded for the track. ¡Que disfruten de la música! ¡Aguante el rock and roll!

Desde Chile Musica de Exportacion, gran trabajo de estos muchachos, evolucionando desde su primer disco homonimo, hasta este maduro vida de perros. No debemos olvidar que en promedio esot musicos no superan los 25 o 26 años, asi que hay musica, creatividad y talento po mucho mas tiempo.
