I think that over the past 24 hours I managed to hear Goldfrapp’s “Strict Machine” 1349873498374 times during the time i spent watching tv. First I saw it featured on a promo commercial for Nip/Tuck’s 4th season, which throughout the rest of the night i saw the same commercial about 5-6 times. A hour later though I saw it again during a Verizon Wireless commercial for their new phone ‘Chocolate’ or whatever it is. After that I think the song has been burned into my brain up until this very moment.

If you’re like me and the song has been stuck in your head, or if you don’t know who did the song for those ads, then here it is for you. It’s off the album Black Cherry that was released in 2003. I’ve always loved listening to Goldfrapp so it’s nice to hear their music on television. Unfortunately, it seems the commercials haven’t been posted on Youtube yet. So if you want to see these then you’ll have to follow the links to the commercials. The Verizon one only has a snippet of the track on their intro video, as i can’t find the actual commercial right now.

Goldfrapp | “Strict Machine”
Goldfrapp | “Strict Machine (Ewan Pearson Instrumental Remix)”
Goldfrapp | “Strict Machine (Rowan’s Remix”

Edit (08/19) – This still seems to be an extremely popular track for people. Here’s a few more off Black Cherry for you to snack on. Buy the album cos it’s good. I also found the Nip/Tuck promo it’s featured on YouTube as well. – Paul

Goldfrapp | “Hairy Trees”
Goldfrapp | “Twist”

I love Goldfrapp! They have been so underrated until now! I am so glad to hear that their songs resonate in the heads of the public now, so happy to hear of their exposure!

I find it a sad commentary on our society that the only way for a really unique (read: quirky or independent) band to be discovered is to have them help sell cars, graphic tv cable shows, sports equipment/shoes or new but not really improved cells (let me know when they are actually made of automatically regenerating chocolate and I’ll buy a dozen).

I agree but what other medium is there for artists like this to get their music out to the general public? MTV? Radio? Of course not, i’m sure they would all sacrifice their artistic integrity for that kind of exposure.

Almost feels like some right of passage for electronic bands like this to be featured on a commercial, it’s almost laughable.

It was also used for a Nintendo Gameboy ad a few years back, this was when Nintendo was running the “Who Are You” marketing campaign.

Irregardless of the commercializing of good and interesting music, I’m glad it was put out there for me to latch on to. With little time to devote to being a music “fan,” I’ll take it where I can get it. I’ve gone from attending 3 to 4 concerts a month to one every six months. It may just mean that there are cool and interesting people putting together those marketing campaigns…who knows?

Thank you so much for telling the name of the song. I’ve been dying to know who sings it. The song was also in the trailer of “Casanova” (the movie with Heath Ledger and Sienna Miller).
