To those who have seen Sigur Rós live can attest to, that they are one of the best concert experiences you could ever witness, if not the best. For me, when i saw them perform at The Tabernacle in March of 2003, to this day has been the most amazing concert i’ve ever been to. It was an experience that moved me like no other to the point that i was drawn to tears at one point. Laugh all you want, but this band is the real deal live. For those who haven’t been lucky enough to see them yet, what Sigur Rós brings has to be witnessed in person to fully appreciate it.

Little things like watching Jónsi sing can be so extremely powerful, seeing the pain and emotion in his face and such an amazing voice. Watching his work with the guitar and cello bow is a treat in itself, hearing all these grand guitar sounds and background noises permeate from it. The entire band just brings full out emotion, they play loud and hard and it’s just an explosion of beautiful noise to get yourself completely lost in. No words can really explain it, as it’s something that has to be witness first hand yourself.

With all that being said, this is the only completele live recording that I could find. This was a show the group did in 2002 at The Spark 7 Hall in Vienna, Austria. Take a listen and enjoy the brilliance and beauty that is Sigur Rós.

I saw them play in Dublin just after Agætis Byrjun came out in 2000. It was a couple of weeks after a good friend died and there was something overwhelmingly emotional about the whole experience. They burned sage on stage, Jonsi sang in to the pick-up on his guitar and I was on the verge of tears for most of it.

AB is still my favourite album of theirs and although I saw them again at the end of last year – mostly performing stuff from () and Takk, it was still very affecting.

Most everyone i’ve ever talked to who have seen them play more then once always mention the first time as the most memorable and emotional. Sadly, i ruined my chance to see them a second time last year as I couldn’t find anyone to come with me.

I couldn’t imagine how emotional that show must’ve been for you, i don’t know if i could’ve handled myself well if i had been going through something similiar while seeing their performance.

With the one show i went to, hearing “viðrar vel til loftárása” brought me to tears as it’s probably one of my all-time favorite songs with ágætis byrjun definitely being my favorite album of theirs.

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience :)
