While Paul was covering the Sound Team, Cold War Kids, and Preakness concert in Atlanta last night, I was at Popscene in SF for the Ima Robot concert and some good old indie clubbing. To tell you the truth, the only reason I went to the concert was because I wanted to experience Popscene before I leave SF. With that said, I did not have any expectations going into the show. Ima Robot played an awesome set with songs from both their self-titled debut album from 2003 and their upcoming album Monument to the Masses, which will be released September 12. The bar was selling $2 Sparks, which simply asked for a chaotic, high energy crowd. I was near the front because I wanted to take some pictures for the blog, so I was pretty much in the middle of a sweaty, dense crowd of hyper indie girls, who all wanted to be in the front so they can touch lead vocalist Alex Ebert everytime he sang “Touch me” or “Love me”.

Ebert himself was also really into the show (or himself)…so much that he danced a bit too hard, fell, and cut himself. He proceeded to bleed for the rest of the show, which was um…interesting.

The concert was a pretty intense experience, and Ima Robot definitely knows how to put on a good show. You can check out the new songs from their forthcoming album on their myspace. I highly recommend Paint the Town Red.

Here are the rest of the photos to give you a taste of what it was like:
Alex, you are sooooo UNattractive…

I’ve never heard of this dude haha, i was like wtf who is this when i saw the pics.

He kinda reminds me of the Average Homeboy guy, which obviously makes sense as to why the ladies would want to touch him.

Lol PJ. I definitely see the Average Homeboy resemblance!

Stephanie, you should check them out the next time they play in SF again. They really know how to work the crowd into a frenzy…if you’re into that sort of things.
