I came across a very interesting website about the debate on music piracy and file sharing. Terry McBride the CEO of Nettwerk Management – has put together this website stating the opinions of Nettwerk Management and p2p file sharing.
Nettwerk Management represents artists such as Avril Lavigne, The Pipettes, Dido, Sarah McLachlan, as well as many others – so this isn’t just some small little voice saying “look at me I can see the benefits of p2p”. Anyways, check it out – the site features an in depth look at the problem as viewed by record labels, and why there should be more effort to “save the music fan”.
Litigation is destructive. We are a creative community, so this approach makes no sense at all. I cannot envision any artist who I have the privilege of representing suing a fan for sharing their music.

What a great article… and so on the money. I agree that most people, even media moguls, have indeed shared music files – via cassette tapes when younger for example.
Media execs just need to come up with a different way to make money and stop relying on the old technology. Times change and so should we.
I agree completely! File sharing is such a great way to expose new artists and get real music heard. It doesn’t really take sales to make an artist huge, it takes the fans. Without us there’d be nothing.
This is a great article, nice find Billy. It’s nice to know that someone in a position like that understands what exactly is going on with the new and creative directions musical promotion is taking.
Sharing music is always going to be around, embrace it and work with it instead of having the RIAA trying to sue everyone.
