Finding good electronic albums is a tough business. With the steady decline in quality (not quantity) of music in the genre it’s easy to dismiss a lot things. I know for me, i almost have this sense of dread upon listening to anything electronic for fear of hearing something completely uninspired and/or cliché. But when you do find those great albums and artists, it’s a great feeling and the world is whole once again. I truly love hearing a good electronic album. I don’t ask for much, i just want good quality music. I want to bob my head to danceable music. I want to pretend that i have a shred of dancing skill when noone is around, when it’s sadly spastic at best. With all that being said, i can happily say that i’ve found a real gem here with Hot Chip’s new album The Warning.

The first song that got me acquainted with the South London quartet was the song “Over and Over” which i instantly loved. It made my little midway 2006 list i posted previously. Easily being one of the best songs of the year, just great music for the dancefloor with a memorable chant that easily gets stuck in your head. After that i quickly picked up the album and i can easily say after repeat listens that this is by far the best electronic album i’m heard the entire year. There are no bad tracks on here (how many times have i said that about albums? I’m serious whenever i say it though) with them ranging from the best dancepop (“Boy From School”, “Over and Over”) you can put your ears to, to soft bedroom ballads (“Look After Me”). Mentioning “Boy From School”, this is another of my favorite tracks. This is just an amazing pop song with Alexis Taylor’s sweetly thinned vocals singing the line “We try, but we don’t belong”. Seriously, try not singing along to this stuff.

So, if you enjoy good vocal electronica like The Notwist, Postal Service with beat influences from the likes of Kraftwerk and Aphex Twin, then this is right up your alley. What more can i say? Give it a listen on their website as you can stream samples off the entire album, or stream some songs on their Myspace.
